  1. This HD camcorder use hugh file size format to store video image, and not editable (cut un-used portion, merge different clips) with window movie maker from standard PC, nor viewable with window media player on PC. It greatly reduce the interest in taking video and share with family/friends.

The photo quality is another big disappointed, it looks much worse than photo taken from a lower resolution camera. It does not match what one expected from reading its picture’s resolution and premium price of HD.

  2. PRO: This is a beautiful compact, light and very sleek package for shooting TRUE HD videos. Truly stunning in presentation. The video results are outstanding….very accurate color rendition, crispness, etc.

    CON:

    1. The concept of recording on SD cards is brilliant. Pop it into the camera, shoot your video, get to your computer, remove the card, plug into your computer, copy over the video shots. NOT !

In their infinite wisdom the JVC engineers decided that would be too easy. This camcorder records in some unrecognized video format that first, can’t be easily found on the SD card, and then can’t be just lifted into your computer. You need to transfer FROM the camcorder direct to the computer. So what’s the point of having removable SD cards?

    2. If you are a serious photographer/videographer, you know that the best way to shoot for both framing, accuracy and no camera shake is to do so through the viewfinder. NOPE. No view finder. You need to shoot using only the LCD screen. Talk about amateur hour.

This camcorder is a disappointment. They were on the verge of something outstanding, and made it mediocre.

  3. first impressions on this camera is wow!

so small compared to my old Sony digital8.

fits nicely in my hand, screen is clear

image quality of the recording are clear, so far does well in under incandescent light and low light and bright light.

    sound is clear

the blue is a little darker the the photo, but I love the dark blue that it is.

    no cons so far really.

the program that comes with it like all other programs you get are.. ok.

its browser could be better, the viewer is good part of it. its currently the only way to view the avchd video clear atm. vlc plays but it struggles to display correct.

  4. This JVC is the first camcorder I’ve ever owned, and I have to confess I was concerned it would be difficult to figure out given that I only understand about half of the lengthy product description above! I was pleased to discover that although reading all the instructions carefully would likely yield the best results, I was nevertheless able to shoot some great video footage my first time out once the battery was charged.

The video I took outdoors was excellent quality, and I know the camcorder’s image stabilization did a good job of mitigating my unfortunate tendency to jiggle it while filming. I was also impressed by the quality of the snapshots I took with this camera, and would feel confident relying on this camera for both video and still photo needs while traveling.

My indoor video was not as great, but I’m willing to chalk that up to user-ignorance rather than camera defect. I suspect it is here that reading the instructions comes in handy; I didn’t realize that the camera had it’s own light until a friend pointed it out! The facial detection worked very well even given the dubious lighting, and helped me capture the kids in action.

I would prefer to see the camcorder ship with at least one SD card, but I guess that is not the standard. This camera can hold two cards simultaneously and apparently automatically switches over when one gets full- I haven’t personally recorded an event long enough to test that feature.

All in all, a great camera even for an amateur like me. It is simple enough to use right out of the box, but offers enough advanced features to keep me happy as my skills develop.

  5. This is one nice camcorder. Lightweight, great video quality, easy to use, good amount of operation time. The designers thought of (almost) everything. I taped a graduation with it in a gym and even though the lighting was dim the videos are very nice. The snapshots are easy to take but there the sensitivity is hitting the limits very quickly. The sound recording is well enough to capture low to normal voice from 12 feet distance. The additional features are fun to use. The only two drawbacks that I could mention is that a) the camcorder does not come with any memory, so when I got if first, I had to order it and wait before I could use. The other is that I can’t get the software to work the way it is supposed to work. It looks nice and very organized, but I have a hard time accessing the clips on the camcorder memory. In any event, I love this camcorder and can certainly recommend it.
