I am telling you people this camera was a waste of money. I urge you please consider a sony or some other brand. This camera has really nice features when they work. I keep getting this condensation message that comes up and will never go away. Also the tape always get stuck our and cannot automatically retract. This camera has went for service 3 times and THEY CANNOT FIX IT!!!!! Please condiser a sony. Dirt can record better video then this camera.

Pros:
Lightweight(most mini dv’s are anyways), cheap another extra bonus for that cause most mini dv camcorders usually start at [$$$] USD and up kinda harsh on pockets, and features basic simple and most important great.
Cons:
No hot shoe for external mic and light but that the price you pay for something in this price range and great features, night alive, like all the rest of mini dv’s not much to look for in this department
(…), the JVC-GRD70US is simple and great put it plain it boast of great stills as just as much the same resoulution of the rest of mini dv’s or greater to me but at night which a problem in the mini dv’s area, i compared this camcorder to the ZR-50 which everyone told me would have been a better buy but after purchasing this camcorder the ZR-50 only beats this in one compartment NOTHING. The still are great especially at day which basically what this camera is for day time and lighted night time areas the transfer to the cpu was quick and looked great, all i can say that after 3 weeks of having this JVC-GRD70 Mini DV Camcorder i just cant wait to get back out video taping and shooting stills again

At this price I bought two – I bought a 5 hour battery from ebay and this tiny camera churns out great big video.
I use it in school for making student produced videos – easy to work and fits the hand comfortably.

Don’t waste your time on this junk. Mine blew up just out of warranty with a tape loading problem. Repairing is almost as expensive as purchasing a new model.
I’ve checked other JVC problems on the net; broken CCDs, reset problems, etc. Stay away from JVC; I wish I did.
By the way, JVC is terrible in low light compared to my 10 year old Sony 8mm.

This camera is a piece of Junk. Battery was gone after 60 days. Spent 8 months trying to locate a battery. Now unit stays in unusable “Unit in Safeguard Mode”. If anyone out there has an answer for this problem, please let me know. hosdoc@mynewroads.com
