  1. This camera is not Mac compatible, the Samsung technicians know it, and they don’t care — at least the one I spoke with didn’t care about the fact that I was out $500. It states nowhere on their Amazon page or the Samsung website that this camera doesn’t work on Mac systems. It’s false advertising, and they’re rude on top of it. What a waste of time and money, not to mention I can’t get my video and still images off the camera before returning it. Who makes a new camera these days that’s not Mac compatible? Samsung = so lame.

  2. As of 25APR (when I got off the phone with Samsung) Samsung “Tier 2 Support” told me to take my camera back to where I bought it, because although they claim it’s Mac compatible, “it is not Mac compatible at this time, and we cannot guarantee when/if a fix will be available.”

There is 3d party software that will make the files viewable on a Mac, but at the price of degraded video quality.

It’s too bad that Samsung engineers couldn’t figure this one out before they let it hit shelves – it seems like a “no-brainer” – actually try to use it on a Mac! FYI, I’m using Mac OSX 10.4.6 with either Quicktime 7.0.4 or iMovie 6.0.1 – you only get a white screen with audio and no video.

It’s unfortunate, because the video footage that I have seen of the last generation SC-X105L that was edited on a Mac (as opposed to a PC) actually looks pretty good for a camcorder of this size and price. If Samsung has managed to improve the video quality of this year’s camera AND they can make it work on a Mac, it should turn out quite well. If not, I’m out $600.

  3. This is a great recorder. It’s hardly bigger than a cell phone and easy to use. I am a moderately knowledgeable tech user but by no means as wrapped up in it as the general pop and I didn’t really need any instruction. I bought it to record my children (parenting is an extreme sport) and I have no complaints. I wanted a memory option that wasn’t dependent on my PC and that didn’t put me thousands in the hole buying multiple CDs with low recording time and an internal HD seems like an expensive way to get to know the manufacturers service capabilities. The built in memory on the sanyo has about an hours worth of capacity, when it’s full I transfer to a DVD (on my Sanyo DVD player/recorder) and I have the option of dumping it onto an external card. Then I erase the internal memory and get on with it. I carry it around in my pocket and when something worth recording happens, I’m ready to go. If I wanted to record for more than an hour, I guess I could bring along a few memory cards. The draw back: i don’t think that camera has a timer (no pictures with dad, boo, hoo).

Mac users: your Commercials are cute but maybe you guys aren’t as smart as you think you are?!?! Stick with your iPods and everything will be fine.

  4. Primary reason for this cam’s purchase is for snowboarding…..since its mpeg4 so i dont’ expect much from its quaility….. for 30fps is what i really want. Nice and compact, and the wealther proof design is awesome. Built-in 1gb memory only capable for less than 30 minutes recording…. as user may insert a SD card there…but only up to 2gb….for it doesn’t support 4gb SD / SDHC…. well its battery life not that good anyway…..

what’s it really pissed me off …. is the fact that it burned 1 of my 2gb SD card…..i went to a trip @ LA and Mexico… by the last day we went to hollywood and when i wanna to record the video clip… it won’t record…even it indicate another 26 mins left…. and after the trip when i put it into the card reader….. (i tried it in several card readers i have) it DOESN’T ALLOW ACCESS NO MORE……. i really wish samsung can come up a solution on that…. glad i didn’t use that 2gb onto other camera before….otherwise i’m gonna to lose a whole lot of pics….><

i wish samsung can solve the above problem, and upgrade it with SDHC firmware, and also use a battery external camera module then the one comes with…..

  5. The downloadable spec sheet for this camera from Samsung’s US web site states clearly that it is suposedly Mac OSX compatible under the section titled ‘Conectivity’, on last page of pdf – so much for the childish comments in prior reviews. Obviously from all the relevant reviewers comments it is anything but compatible with OSX and coupled with no image stablization for the external lens makes it fairly useless for it’s intended purpose i.e. sports. Classic case of lame marketing and very disappointing from a company such as Samsung.
