We purchased this camera specifically for use with my PC. I will directly quote the Sharp advertisement under features for this camera. “i-Link (IEEE1394) PC Port – I-Link is a digital port for transferring full motion video and sound to a PC equipped with a I-Link port for video editing on a PC.” I have a Sony Vaio that is equipped. We spent a month going back and forth between dealer and Sharp only to be finally told by Sharp that Sharp has no support for this camera for the I-Link. I think that is false advertising.

This camcorder has good picture and sound quality, but comes with no software (nor is any availible) to transfer dv to computer via firewire. Also battery life is about 20min not 1.5hrs.

I bought this great little camera
back in 2002. It still works perfectly!
I love that it is MiniDV and has a firewire connection.

I have own several versions of this camera, and I can’t get comfortable with any other model! I just love the fact that it has no veiwfinder, adds a unique touch that most other camcorders don’t have. Also if you give it to beginners (or children) to use, they often do a good job of filming due to the fact that it’s a camera designed for two hands.
It’s also incredibly durable, I take it to the beach, in high heat and I’ve dropped it in the snow… still works well!
Downsides would be low light filming and the stills (worthless).
But overall I really LOVE this camera and for the price… I’ll stick to the Sharp VLZN series

I own a professional camcorder, a Canon XH-A1. I was looking for a day to day camcorder, when I came across this Sharp VL-NZ50, prior to this, I bought a couple of viewcam 8mm thru Ebay,and I was so surprised how stable my walking shots had become while holding the camera with 2 hands. I bought a stabilizer from B and H for my XH-A1 and I was hoping I get the same stability, I now can hold my Canon with 2 hands and I get amazing walking shots. I therefore started looking for a Sharp viewcam that is mini-DV, I found it VL-NZ50. This camera has better resolution than an XL1 and other non High Def camcorder out there. I love this camcorder. I now just use my Canon for paid gigs like Weddings, etc. I even used my sharp as a second camcorder, I just sharpen the clips on post. Highly recommended.
